Leipzig - The City of Bach

Leipzig is located about three hours drive south-west of Berlin, in the German "Land" of Saxony.

Leipzig is a city of revolutions, innovations and transformations. It is a magnificent city, which has seen the rise of Johann Sebastian Bach, who had worked in Leipzig from 1723 to 1750, at the St. Thomas Lutheran church. In the tour, you will also learn about its importance in the life of composer Richard Wagner, who was born here.

But Leipzig's importance is also historical - it was arena of the Battle of the Nations, which ended Napoleon's run of conquest in Europe, and led to his first exile on Elba; and in 1989, it is where the East German democracy movement started from.

A tour to Leipzig could be integrated with a stop over in Lutherstadt-Witteberg, where Matrin Luther developed his critique on Catholicism; and where he hung his "95 theses".
