Berlin's Nightlife - Something for Everybody!

Berlin has many nightlife venues and is actually a good and affordable city to cruise clubs, pubs, bars (Kneipe, in German) and other cultural locales.

So, where should you go? It depends on your taste - because as the title says, there is something for everybody out there

.

Recommended pubs and pub areas

  • Start your night at Simon-Dach Kiez (Kiez is German for "neighbourhood", in the social, not geographical, context). You can get there from S-Bahn and U-Bahn station Warschauer Straße. There are bars and pubs there for every taste, as well as many restaurants.
  • "Irish Pubs" - there are two types of Irish pubs in the city. Ones that belong to a company that manufactures Irish pubs that look the same all over the world; and ones that are independent, and in my opinion, much more worth visiting. Two of those independent pubs are The Old Emerald Isle (which I personally really like) in Kreuzberg and The Oscar Wilde (Friedrichstr. 112a), which is for those loving the "hard stuff".
  • Another good area to cruise for bars is Kreuzberg 36 (the area next to the Kotbusser Tor station), which is full of pubs.

  • The gay scene is focused mostly (but not only) around Nollendorfplatz, with many gay-friendly locales

  • Prenzlauer Berg, especially around Kollwitz Platz and the Kulturbrauerei, is full of pubs, restaurants and other nightlife venues.

  • In Mitte, around the Hackescher Hoefe, and further to Torstr. and Rosenthalerstr.

And for the Dancing Queen (and Kings)... - Recommended Clubs

  • So 36 - alternative music, punk, also gay nights and other special and alternative cultural events. In the Kreuzberg 36 Kiez
  • Berghain (formerly Ostgut) - mostly electro music. Very selective - Doorman would not let you in, if you look too much of a teenie.
  • Roter Salon - All sorts of beats, pop, indie/alternative and also non-dance events
  • KIT KAT CLUB - perhaps the most "notorious" club in Berlin. Music is not the main issue - sexy dress code is. However, also good techno. Location is at the end of the world, in an industrial zone, so be sure to take a taxi
  • Watergate Drum and Base and some other electro sounds. Beautiful view to the Spree.
  • Maria am Ostbahnhof - Very good electro music, live sets, many international artists.
  • Kaffee Burger in Mitte features, among other things, Vladimir Kaminer's "Russian Disco" night. Another unique Berlin experience
  • Hafen Bar - like 1970s pop? A bit of kitsch? Haven't gotten over your mullet? You're a bit older than the normal club goer? This is the place for you. Lots of fun guaranteed.
  • K-17, on the other hand, is for you if you dress like Neo from the Matrix, listen to Goth music and think that your parents are evil and the world in general sucks. Also metal nights.
