Sachsenhausen is located just north of Berlin, and served as Berlin's "local" KZ, Concentration Camp.
This camp's history ranges from stories of great courage and of great cruelty; of revenge and random displays of evil. Not only Jews were interned in Sachsenhausen. In fact, this Concentration Camp had several non-Jewish prisoners, including some top political prisoners.
After the World War, Sachsenhausen was used by the Soviets to prison Germans suspect of collaborating with the Nazis; or resisting the Soviet occupation of Germany. We shall hear about that as well.
