Long live independent Spandau! Up until 1920, Spandau was an independent city, and many features of this charming district deserve an excursion to this very different "city within a city": Spandau has its Medieval Citadel, which is one of the only complete examples of Rennaissance architecture in Germany; it has an old city, which was almost not affected by World War Two bombings and many other interesting sites.
In our tour to Spandau, we shall visit the Citadel; see the oldest Jewish gravestones in eastern Germany and the famous torture tower; see the memorial for Spandau's synagogue and the vibrant, Romantic, old-city, including the house, in which Napoleon had to stay before his withdrawl in 1813.
Please Note: Because of the medieval structures, wheelchair users will not be able to see many of the sites; entrance to the Citadel and boat-ride/Olympic Stadium entrance costs extra. Back |
